Getting better as we age. Sounds contradictory. Doesn't everything just go downhill as we get older? Is there anything good about aging? There are many things that get better as we grow older. Here are just five of them.
Increased patience. In our younger days, we had to do everything immediately and as quickly as possible so we could get to the next thing on our list. As we get older and there are fewer demands from work and family, there is more time to deal with the demands of life. The to-do list has gotten smaller and if it takes more time to finish it, that's okay. We will get it done.
More contentment. We don't have to keep up with the neighbors anymore. The bigger house, the newer car and designer clothes lose their appeal. We have learned through trial and error what we like and what we don't like. We no longer need to strive to get more and more things just because that is what everybody else does. We get to the point where what we have is all we need.
Better self-image. The older we get, the less we worry about what other people think of the way we look. We don't feel the need to constantly be trying every cream or diet to look better. Comfort takes precedence over what is the most fashionable. This is who I am and I like it!
Perspective. Aging can bring about a better perspective on life. After all the things we have been through over the years, we have learned what is important and what is not. Now we can concentrate on what means the most to us and let the rest slide.
More appreciation for the little things. We can now stop and actually look at a beautiful flower or a gorgeous sunset. We have time to nurture our relationships and appreciate our family and friends for who they are.
